I had built up my reunion soooooo much in my mind. I was sure it was going to be an incredible evening. And, as I've shared with you over the last couple of days, in many ways it was.
Everyone was nice.
My Father rescued me at 3am.
While those were both highlights, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. There was no lightening strike of justice. None of the fat kids showed up thin. I did not witness one single "righting" of an old wrong. No one spotted someone from long ago across the crowded dance floor and immediately broke into a life altering tango. I did not have one intellectual conversation. It was just a nice evening. That's all.
20 years seems like such a long time that I hoped it would be memorable at least. But it wasn't.
Here are my suggestions to you if you are preparing to go to your 20 year high school reunion:
- Take my Dad's home number with you in a safe pocket.
- Don't bother to diet, the lovliest gals there had all gained a couple of lbs.
- If the line is long at the bar then do what I did and get two drinks (both for you) every time through.
- When drunk girls start telling you that they were jealous of you in high school tell them YOU were jealous of THEM. It makes them laugh and laugh.
- If you catch yourself telling someone you were jealous of them in high school stop getting two drinks every time through the long line at the bar.
- It is inappropriate to make cell phone calls from the ladies room, no matter what year reunion it is.
- Have business cards made up with your home info on it...finding a pen was a continuous problem all night. Here's what my cards looked like:
Jenny Chased
Goddess of all I survey
Chicago, IL 63113
LOL! Don't you just love the power of alcohol?

Or you could do like me: miss the reunion alltogether and still catch up with a whole bunch of people from your graduating class on Facebook within a month of the reunion you missed.
Pretty neat.

I've just made my way to your blog and I'm so glad I did. Only problem is, I now have a folder stuffed with 'blogs to explore' thanks to all your enticing descriptions and links!
On the subject of reunions, they closed my school down the year I left - ah well, no need to diet.
