Well, I intended to write a somewhat academic post today (what? shut it) about the name Martin Luther. A name that for me always meant the 16th century monk who ignited the reformation of the Catholic Church. The father of Protestantism. A person for whom I have a large amount of respect...due in large part to the required memorization of his words from the time I was roughly 6 to the time I turned 14 (military school has nothing on a Missouri Synod Lutheran school).
I thought a brief comparison might be interesting between this first Luther and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the great civil rights leader for whom today is a day of remembrance. Interestingly as I started research I discovered that Dr. King's first name (as was his fathers before him) was Michael.
It seems that at some point the elder King decided to change his name and his son's name to Martin Luther King (Sr. and Jr. respectively).
And I've never heard of a famous Michael King. So the whole post kind of falls apart.
So, I've decided to take a nap instead.
