Dear Sweet Jenny,
Just wanted to drop you a note to make sure you know that me and Mike are praying for you, your team and all the women who are attending the renewal weekend this Saturday and Sunday. It's such a wonderful experience, and I'm sure your leadership will bring it all to a new level of spiritual renewal (and humor). I wonder if God laughs the way people do when they are around you...something I will ask Him when I get there.
God Bless You,
Thanks for the note. Hmmm...does God laugh? I sure hope so. In fact, I've often thought that God has created laughter specifically for me and my family (is that arrogant? shut up). Well, if He didn't create it for us He sure has blessed us with it. There have been days, weeks, months and even years where the only thing that has kept me going, literally going, is the laughter of my friends and family.
I had a pastor growing up that had exquisite comic timing. His sermons were always full of jokes and funny anecdotes (not typical for Lutheran Pastors at all). In religion class back in 8th grade he told us there were jokes in the bible, you just needed to look for them. He then went on to tell the story of Matthew 7:3 about looking for the log in your own eye before pointing out the speck in our neighbor's eye in such a funny way that I think half the class peed it's pants.
My question is whether God has a funny bone that mere mortals can tickle. I know there are times that I can feel him smiling at me, but an actual laugh....what would that even be like? I know that he bowls (thunder) so he's probably a beer drinker. And all those beer commercials are funny so maybe....
Let's find out. A Priest, a Rabbi and a Buddhist monk walk into a bar...
